Intro to ‘A Prayer in Stone’ My wish was granted when The Abbot of Buckfast Abbey, David Charlesworthy, commissioned me to carve a three-quarter life-size statue of the Madonna and child in Stone. I was able to introduce a modern aspect to this age-old subject, and the focus was on her motherliness and love for her child, whereas his was his joy for life and the sharing of it.
