Glass is my true passion! I am drawn
by its visual appeal, which for me lies in the combination of
colour, transparency, light and air and I am excited by the
endless
possibilities.
I graduated in Glass from the
University of Wolverhampton as a mature student, and have worked
professionally with my own glass studio since 2002. I use
kiln-forming
techniques, and have a particular specialism of
firing powdered enamels into the glass to create unusual
textures, patterns and blended shades in my work.
I like to
create my designs in a semi-abstract way, with the initial concept
often starting from natural forms. Oceanic themes of
movement and fluidity, with the mesmerising colours of marine
life and the forms of flora and fauna in and around the
coastline stimulating many of my ideas – from flowing seaweed,
frothy waves and corals, to leaping fish or ripples in
the sand.
I’ve undertaken many commissions not only
for private clients but also NHS trusts, hotels and schools,
from garden sculptures to interior wall features. I am also a
member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and the Crafts
Council Directory of Makers and in 2010 I was award the Gold
prize for glass in the Craft & Design Magazine awards.
