Artist’s Statement
born 1969.
I am an English Modernist Metal Sculptor . Initially trained as an
Artist Blacksmith at Herford College of Art and Design. Within each of my works , three fundamental elements stay true , the natural environment , the built environment and the human presence.
I live in Totnes , South Devon, Blackswan Forge in Harberton is where I bring my sculptures to life . I have a passion for wild and organic forms ,inspired by the beauty of our natural environment . I love the work from the Futurist
Movement and am also inspired by Abstract Contemporary Sculpture. In 1999 I was commissioned by Sustrans to create 13 sculptural waymarkers, these were for the Tarka Trail in North Devon . Most of the materials were reclaimed from the Trail , reworked and then placed back to where they were found .
This set the ball rolling into numerous Public Art/Sculpture
commissions for Torbay Council between 2001 and 2005 .
Two I particularly enjoyed ,the first being a Sculptural Wall Relief to celebrate The Queens Golden Jubilee in 2002 ,situated in Winner Street , Paignton , inspired by the rolling waves and the community.
The second being a Nautical Sundial 2005 in Preston Gardens ,Paignton , inspired by sails , ships and their moorings . Public Art/Sculpture is something that I really enjoy ,especially working alongside the general public and the community .
