Artist’s Statement

My workshop is on an old dairy farm. It’s no longer a working farm. The sheds are overgrown and the milking parlour is full of old unnamed pieces of rusting machinery, and sings with the drip and flow of water whenever it rains.
Everywhere nature is making its slow land grab. Harts tongue ferns grow from cracks in the concrete and ivy snakes its way up a tumbledown wall. Swallows and wrens nest in the old feed room and sparrows chatter amongst the beams in the stables.

This is what inspires me, the potential of nature to reclaim the places we forget. Through abstracted natural forms, I attempt to show the beauty of the environment around us.
I completed a foundation in Art and gained a BA in Applied Arts, specialising in Metalwork, before apprenticing for a blacksmith for several years. I eventually set up my own workshop in 2008.

My background and training has meant that my work always has a sculptural feel to it, whether it be a gate, fire iron set or, more recently, sculpture.
I work almost exclusively in mild steel, which is galvanised and then treated with acid etch to achieve a mottled ethereal finish.
