Artist’s Statement
My work involves sourcing, cutting, bending and spot welding vintage tools together to create native animal and bird sculptures that are as anatomically accurate as the medium allows. I want the piece to be instantly recognisable but I also want to showcase the tools themselves, which for me are as important as the sculpture itself.
I love the idea that once useful tools can be re-purposed, so that they can be appreciated in a new way. I’m fascinated by the history that they hold within them - from the hands used to originally create them, through the many different jobs they’ll have done on their journey to my workbench.
My preference is to create commissions using some tools from the client, sometimes from a relative that is no longer with us, which adds that extra sentimental bond to the piece.
I hope you enjoy my work.
