Relief Carving

A new course focusing on relief carving in Portland Stone, We will be looking at insects and making a larger than life carving, (about 15cm square) of a beetle, bee or small creature of your choice.

Day one will begin with some simple carving exercises to learn technique then we will be planning the design on to the stone and working out the different layers of the relief carving before begining carving. The afternoon will be spent carving and finding the form of our insect within the stone.

Day two will begin with more carving and refining of the form as well as developing the back ground texture. We will then be looking at finishing techniques, undercutting and polishing all of which will being tour insect to life Tea and coffee facilites, use of tools and materials are all included. 10am till 5pm each day. Please bring a packed lunch. Max number of participants: 4
