Artist’s Statement
Since my childhood in Sweden when I was taught art and sewing in school, I have always enjoyed making things and dreamt of a future as an artist. Life intervened and I worked as a taxi driver, as well as bringing up a child, and seeing my parents off.
I completed a Ba (Hons) in large scale metalwork at Plymouth College of Art and Design. After college I travelled as much as I could. My travels took me to the ancient Buddhist temple Boroboudor in Java, Indonesia. It is covered in thousands of breath taking stone carvings depicting the teachings of the Buddha.
This lead me to learn stone carving which I discovered is the medium that speaks to me. My sculptures are mostly made from reclaimed Bath or Portland stone. Nature in its many forms is my primary inspiration.
My work has previously been shown at Delamore Arts. This year "As above so below" was selected to be installed at Stonelane Sculpture Gardens near Chagford, where you can see it until October 31st.
One of my latest pieces, "Locked-down World", has been donated to Totnes Town. This is now on permanent display in the little park called ‘Lamb Garden’.
