Artist’s Statement

I am a portrait and figurative sculptor working from my studio in Plymouth. Having trained in Florence, surrounded by the masters in the most incredible open-air museum in the world, I have a deep respect for the technical skill of portrait and figurative sculpture. I am also inspired by boldness, colour and human emotion. I love that sculpture has the ability, as a three-dimensional medium, to tell a changing story from every angle.

Making use of this in my work, where there is light, there is also shade. I aim to encapsulate the highs and the lows of what it means to be human and give forms to the stories we tell ourselves to change our moods.

I sculpt in clay, finishing pieces either as glazed ceramic sculptures or cast in bronze or resin. Whenever possible, I try to work from life as I find there is an honesty and energy in direct observation. My work is currently on show at Brownston Gallery and I have recently been selected as a highly commended artist in the HOMIENS Spring 2025 Art Prize.
