Artist’s Statement
2025 marks the 20th anniversary of my becoming a fused glass artist. Previously, I had developed my Midlands based commercial interior design consultancy which became one of the top 40 in the country. By 2005 I was ready for a new challenge, returning to university to learn glass making and then establishing my own glass studio, developing architectural commissions and fulfilling community-based projects.
My work is organised into collections highlighting my love of pattern making. I have developed an individual glass technique creating unique sheets of glass from a variety of glass elements such as glass sheet, frits, confetti, stringers and paints. These are cut into different shapes, mounted and grouted over a series of kiln firings.
I specialise in wall hung works of art and 3-dimensional sculptural pieces for internal and external installation. The resulting art works highlight the beauty of glass and the way it reflects colour, texture and light. Glass is a magical material – both clear and opaque, fragile and tough, solid and fluid. It is a material of contradictions and multiple techniques.
After 7 years in post, I recently stepped down as Chair and Project Manager of the Contemporary Glass Society to totally concentrate on developing my creative practice.
