Artist’s Statement
I live and work in North Devon and came late to ceramics following a busy career.
I work instinctively, and am drawn to the malleability of clay and the sheer physicality of coiling and shaping larger pots and sculptures. Shape and line guide my imagery. I have ideas, but then prefer to switch off the thoughts and let the clay guide me.
I have an eclectic range of interests and my work reflects these. Although my works are seen as powerful they are not intended to make a grand statement. Rather I hope that a piece might make someone pause and think for a moment, or be entertained and laugh at the absurdity.
Recently I was surprised and delighted that many visitors hugged a group of pieces and seemed to find some emotional connection, and it is his response that I find the most satisfying.
